Ady is 9 years old and in 3rd grade at All About Achieving Learning Center in Stuart Florida! Ady was born with a rare cartilage disorder called Larsen Like Syndrome and has had over 12 orthopedic surgeries at the Paley Institute in West Palm Beach to correct and help support her legs and back. Ady is mainly wheelchair-bound, however, she is working on strengthening her muscles to walk more and become more independent. Dance has always been something that brings light to Ady in dark times. She will have dance parties as she is wheeled back to the operating room! Dance is a joy to her! Joining Wings to Fly Dance Company has given Ady the opportunity to express herself in so many different ways. Dance has also increased her motivation to walk and put in the hard work of strengthening her body to walk and dance!

She wants the world to know that it is okay to be different because God did not make everyone the same. Alex is passionate about church, her family, and her dance. She has been receiving massage, aquatic and physical therapy from Tara Anstensensince she was 8. Tara invited her to dance with Wings to Fly at the age of 17. Dance to Angel is like taking your first steps. Hard at first, easier as you learn and now you can tell a story just by walking. Angel Tamayo is described as a man on the path of life with a story to tell. He started his journey through dance at the age of 15 with no proper dance training and with two left feet. He trained with Star City Dance, South Florida Dance Company, and eventually was invited to dance with Wings to Fly Dance Company. Described as passionate and optimistic, he shows vulnerability by expressing his story through movements connecting his passion to our audiences. Angel is presently teaching dance at The Renaissance School and a choreographer for their yearly show at the Sunrise Theatre. He has been a guest artist with South Florida Dance Company’s Christmas Carol. Angel has been working very hard to have dance be a full-time career. His dreams of auditioning for SYTYCD and working with world-class choreographers still live on. Angel simply cannot imagine a world without dance.

At age seventeen, Casey received Physical Therapy from Tara Anstensen. Tara asked her if would be interested in dancing and her answer was a big YES. Since that time Casey has performed in over eight performances with Wings to Fly Dance Company.
Casey was the third person ever to be harnessed and lifted out of a wheelchair using the Harness created by Tara Anstensen. She loves being on the stage with her friends. Casey performs a signature piece titled, “I Believe”, and is always excited to bring this piece to life. Casey has made dramatic improvements in her movement ability and performing skills. On stage, Casey’s soul extends beyond her body, many say that she glows. Casey is presently writing “Romance Novels”.

Harley is the youngest member to join Wings to Fly, and it is truly her dream that has come to fruition, embraced into this spectacular artistry. She was mesmerized and engaged from the first exquisite moment she was introduced to this company. Her heart is filled with compassion and love which is expressed in her performance. She is the rare artist that makes you feel intensely, she grabs your focus with her honesty and vulnerability.
Harley has learned to investigate, question, improvise and create which has led her to compose her own choreography work. This includes a contemporary ballet audition piece collaborated and created with Tasha which led to an invitation to Complexions Contemporary Ballet Summer Intensive, offered summer 2020. Harley has attended summer intensives with the following companies: American Ballet Theater in Austin, TX. Nashville Ballet, Paris Ballet and DeSales University Dance, Kansas City Ballet, Charlotte Ballet, North Carolina School for the Arts, Next Generation, Orlando and Austin Ballet.
Harley performed lead roles in The Christmas Carol at Sunrise Theatre. Harley will breathe love in her dance for Wings to Fly, a sweet thread in the collaborative, creative and completely wonderful fabric of this rare company.

“I am honored and humbled to have been invited to dance with Wings to Fly this year. The first piece that I began working on has given me an opportunity to work with the most exceptional young lady named Alex. Alex filled my heart and soul like nothing else I have ever experienced. Although Alex is in a wheelchair, she commands the stage with her charisma and smile. I am very grateful to have had such a wonderful teacher Tasha over the past four years. The life and dance lessons I have learned from Tasha have made me the dancer I am today.”

Riley’s love of dance began when she was very young. She joined Kimberly’s School of Dance at age 10. She then moved to South Florida Dance Company where her dance and performance abilities blossomed due to the great instructors and the incredible shows they performed every year. Riley had the honor of playing leading roles on the Sunrise Theatre stage. Meanwhile, she also performed and participated in Port St. Lucie High School’s Dance Department with Brian Spector. Riley states that her experience with Wings to Fly has not only improved her performance skills but has also given her the opportunity to dance with persons with disabilities. She is eternally grateful that she has been able to help make their dreams of performing come true. It brings her such joy to see their excitement and talent shine. While dance and performing is her passion, she has earned her nursing degree and now works locally as a registered nurse in the Neonatal ICU.

Dance holds a special place in my heart, from the moment I started dancing until now. When I dance I feel like I can suddenly breathe, I feel as if I’m invincible, reborn. Dance is my life and has indeed changed my life in numerous ways. One thing I have learned as a dancer is perseverance. When you fall or make a mistake, courage is needed for you to get back up and try again. Dance to me means ‘freedom’, freedom to move and express yourself in ways you didn’t think was possible. Working with Wings to Fly Dance Company has taught me the true meaning of freedom. Freedom is the condition of being free from restraints. Dancing with people in wheelchairs has brought the statement of ‘anyone can dance’ to life for me. They have taught me to slow down, and take the time to just look around and take in this beautiful world and all of the simple joys we are blessed to encounter every day. Seeing a smile on their faces every chance they get to dance makes me as a person even more grateful for dance myself. Working with Wings to Fly has changed me for the better.

Mikayla Bradford
Alumni
This is Mikayla’s seventh year with Wings to Fly, having previously preformed in WTFD’s shows Hope, Life and Journey. Her dance training began at age 16 with South Florida Dance Company. She has a degree in Fine Arts for Dance from Indian River State College and is currently working as a certified dental assistant in Port St. Lucie. The experience of dancing alongside the wheelchair bound dancers has shaped Mikayla’s perspective of not just her own dancing, but her overall outlook on life and people.
“Working with Casey, Sabrina, Alex, and everyone else in HOPE changes how you look at yourself and the people around you. You start to realize how unimportant it is to be able to kick your leg as high or do as many turns as your fellow dancers, and you learn to appreciate the privilege to just move and express through dance. Wings To Fly has given me the opportunity to work with individuals that I would have never otherwise known, but who have made such a powerful positive impact on my day to day life, and for that I am eternally grateful.”
